How to use On-Demand Motion Search (MOS) in G-SIM
How to use On-Demand Motion Search (MOS) in G-SIM
If analytics have not been pre-configured on a G-Core server, you can still search for motion using G-SIM’s Motion Search (MOS) function. MOS allows you to detect motion either in live images or across a defined time range without any prior configuration in G-Set. This guide covers both live and historical motion search in GSIM using MOS, including privileges, setup, and creating cut lists. Base functionality for this is available in most modern versions of G-SIM. Some features described below are only availale from G-SIM 11.1 onwards.
1. Prerequisites
Before using MOS in G-SIM, make sure the following privileges are enabled in Management Console:
- Create Cut Lists
- Motion Search (MOS)
These privileges can be enabled for individual users or user groups:
For User Groups:
- Go to Users and Security
- User Groups
- Select the group and open the Privileges tab
- Under Cut Lists:
- Enable Create Cut Lists
- Under Investigation:
- Enable Motion Search (MOS)
For Individual Users:
- Go to Users and Security
- Users
- Select the user and open the Privileges tab
- Enable the privileges as above
Optional settings:
Rectangle Border Color: Adjust the color of the rectangles drawn in the viewer under Client Setup > Client Data > Console Settings > MOS
Default Cut List Item Length: Adjust under Server Setup > System Settings > Operator Console > Default Cutlist Item Length in Seconds. This applies to all cut lists in G-SIM.
2. Enabling Motion Search
- Open the desired viewer in G-SIM
- Click the Search Mode button on the top toolbar — this enables MOS. An icon will appear in the viewer.

- If you want to restrict the search to a specific area, click the icon and, click and drag in the viewer to draw a rectangle. This rectangle must be drawn from the top-left to the bottom-right and be larger than 10×10 pixels.

Motion detection is now active. When motion is detected, the rectangle changes color and can optionally play a sound. Enable or disable sound by right-clicking in the viewer.
3. MOS Live (Detect Motion in Live Images)
MOS Live allows you to detect motion in live images and optionally generate cut lists automatically:
- With Search Mode enabled, click the MOS Live icon in the viewer (above image)
- Draw a rectangle over the area you want monitor
- To create a cut list with detected motions, click the Create Cut List icon. Each detected motion will be added automatically.

If a new motion occurs within the current cut list’s section, it will not create a new entry.
Camera adjustments like zooming or pausing will end the current cut list section and deactivate the icon.
4. Background MOS (Detect Motion Over a Time Range)
Background MOS allows you to search for motion in a defined area and time range while automatically creating a cut list
G-Tect Activity Detection (AD) service must be active on the G-Core server (G-Set > Image Analyzers)
- Click the Background MOS icon in the toolbar.
- Draw a rectangle over the area to search (minimum 10×10 pixels).
- Open the Background MOS menu, select Start and End date/time, and set Motion Sensitivity.

- Click Start Background MOS. Detected motions will automatically populate a cut list
If no motions are detected in the selected range, GSIM will display: “There are no search results to show with the selected configuration or G-Tect AD was not activated on G-Core side.”
